Our next webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30th at 7.00pm. Geoff Beggs, CEO and co-founder of Front Square Solutions will be in the chair discussing the games making process. This is an excellent opportunity to hear from the CEO of an Irish games development company who offer innovative training solutions for a range of corporate clients.
Geoff Beggs is CEO and co-founder of Front Square Solutions Limited. Front Square helps companies to achieve world class performance through their operations and their people. This is achieved using a pioneering social media and gaming approach to training.
Geoff began his career as an engineer with Ford Motor Company before moving into professional training and development. Working with blue chip organisations globally, he has trained and mentored almost 500 people in operational excellence tools and techniques. He has overseen projects that amount to total savings of €5million for his clients.
He has a broad experience with operational excellence across manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, bio-tech, financial services and telecommunications.
He holds a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from UCD, a master’s degree in automotive engineering from the University of Leeds and an MBA from the UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business.

Michael Hallissy is a founding partner with H2 Learning. He trained as a primary school teacher in Coláiste Mhuire Marino in the mid 1980s and after teaching for two years emigrated to the US where he enrolled in Boston College’s M.Ed programme where his major focus was on education technology with a minor focus on assessment and learning. On returning to Ireland in 1994 he resumed his teaching duties. He was seconded by the Irish Department of Education in 1996 to assist them in developing their first ICT in education policy, Schools IT 2000. Subsequently he worked in the NCTE. Having spent five years in the NCTE he left in January 2002 and established H2 in August 2002.
Much of his work is focused on the creative use of ICTs in teaching and learning – particularly in using ICT in a constructivist manner. He is extremely interested in how technologies can improve student literacy, particularly their digital literacy. He is currently enrolled in the international EdD programme in the Institute of Education and he hopes to conduct research in the area of digital literacy and computer games. He believes computer games provides a great opportunity to create new forms of learning, particularly for students who are not engaged by traditional methods and approaches.
MissionV Launches New Game Based Learning Webinar Series with Partners iGBL, Waterford Institute of Technology
We are very excited to announce that we are to run a free webinar series aimed at educators on the area of Game Based Learning. To this end we have partnered with the leaders in research in GBL in this country, the Game Based Learning Research Group based in Waterford Institute of Technology, led by Dr. Patrick Felicia, PhD. Patrick is a passionate believer in the potential use of GBL principles in classroom settings and has a wealth of experience in research in this area. He is the author of Digital Games in Schools – A Handbook for Teachers.
Our first webinar, Game Based Learning – An Introduction, is scheduled for Thursday, August 18th at 7.00pm and will be run through the global educators’ network, Learncentral.org.. During this webinar, Patrick will be introducing the concept of Game-based Learning, explain how it can be employed in instructional settings, and provide practical information on how to harness this engaging medium. Bio: Dr. Patrick Felicia
Patrick Felicia, PhD, is a lecturer, course leader and researcher at Waterford Institute of Technology, where he teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students. He obtained his MSc in Multimedia Technology in 2003 and PhD in Computer Science in 2009 from University College Cork, Ireland.
Patrick has a keen interest in the design and development of engaging educational multimedia-based application for secondary and third level. He is specialized in Game-Based Learning, Multimedia, Educational Psychology, and Instructional Design.
He is Editor-In-Chief of the International Journal of Game-Based Learning (IJGBL) and has also served on program committees for international Game-Based Learning and Technology-Enhanced Learning conferences and journals.
Patrick is currently conducting research in the fields of adaptive educational games and user profiling in video games. He is also investigating the factors that may facilitate or prevent the integration of GBL in primary, secondary and third-level education.
In addition to his research on GBL, he also focuses on promoting best practices for GBL amongst educationalists (e.g., keynotes and workshops), a task he believes is crucial for a wider understanding and acceptance of GBL.
