Immersive Learning Experiences - Making the Impossible Possible

Evaluation report on MissionV

Dr. Conor Galvin is a lecturer and researcher at UCD School of Education & Lifelong Learning where he works on various education, ICT, public policy and research methods programmes. He is currently carrying out an evaluation of the MissionV 20 school programme and has now published an interim report. Here follow a few quotes from that report -

“MissionV is a success story of creativity and innovation in an educational setting. The project already provides impressive proof of concept and offers a coherent and deployable model for schools interested in using immersive technology as part of their curriculum activity.”

“MissionV set out to provide an early and positive grounding for participating students not only in the technical skills of programming but also in the ‘softer’ skills of connecting, creating and collaborating.”

“Interesting to note the strength of feeling that the project should and could be continued beyond its intended close-out.”

“Children need to be more self-actualised as learners and this requires both structured challenges and motivational activities. The possibilities offered by a virtual world in this regard are to say the least intriguing.”
